Hello!
So this post is a little late but it´s coming to you just the same. Buenos Aires was pretty cool. I figured that BA is South America´s equivalent to North America´s New York. Buenos Ares is massive, busy, tons of shopping, loads of bloody statues (to the point, you stop caring in reading the plaque of who´s who), always something to do, multicultural, both posh and sketchy at the same time. It felt very similar to my visit to New York last August, yet it obviously had a sense of individualism. Marielle and I were fortunate enough to stay in a terrible hostel in one of the posh-est parts of town called Recoletta-close to everything. We experienced the night life with another hostel-mate, Pow (short for Paula?) who was studying to become a spanish-english translator; which made navigating arough town all the much easier. We signed on to see a Tango show which was probably our highlight! It included giving us a lesson on how to dance the tango, then fed us a delicous steak dinner, and bottomless Argentinian Wine.....mmmmmm. The show was spectacular, the footwork, the drama, the costume everything!!-even the intermission band (consisting of a native South American group of an accordian, fiddle, guitar and drum) was absolutely fantastic!! We had a chilled day on the sunday experiencing B.A. with Marielle´s friend Alejandro who showed us around, and had us try true Argentina food----he even had us make a dessert called chocola-torta. It was amazingly easy biscuits layered with dulche de leche (which is fricken everywhere!) mixed with cream cheese-again mmmmmmm. Our last night we went to a less than friendly part of town to go experience Bomba del Tiempo----this show is on every Monday, that is a drumming group. They play to the bazillion different hand signal the conducter gives- who is alternated amongst the players. So every song is absolutely differnet in accordance to the conducter and how the crowd responds to such! So wickedly awesome- that some of my insane crazy dance moves broke out in full force-----enough for pow to say that I have crazy-wild dance moves. So thus far I have samba-ed in Brazil, Tango´d in Argentina, and some of my natural momma africa beat dance moves came out at the drumming concert. Good time. Good vibes. Loving Life.
Big Time Love,
Megs
